Radial finned fan cover
A fan cover guides cooling air over the motor body and protects the fan. It needs an open, even pattern of fins or slots, enough stiffness to resist knocks on site, and fixing points that line up with the frame.
Radial finned covers like the one shown are high pressure die cast in a single shot, so the fin pattern repeats exactly from part to part. Fixing holes are drilled and tapped in house, and the cover can be supplied coated through our finishing partner.
Process, alloys and indicative ranges
| Process | HPDC |
|---|---|
| Typical wall | 2 to 3.5 mm, indicative |
| Alloys | ADC12, LM24 |
| Supplied | As cast, drilled and tapped, or coated |
Ranges are indicative for this kind of part. We confirm process, machine, alloy and tolerances for your design at drawing review.
Critical features and how we check them
| Fixing hole pattern and pitch circle | Functional gauge in house; first article inspection on every new tool |
|---|---|
| Fin completeness and flash | Visual inspection in house, at every stage |
| Flatness of the mounting face | Surface plate check in house |
| Coating thickness, when coated | Measured by the coating partner and reported with the batch |
Machining and finishing options
- Trimming and fettling of fins
- Drilling and tapping
- Powder coating through a partner
Questions that sharpen your quote
- Does the cover need an IP rating or a finger guard standard?
- Coating colour, thickness and salt spray requirement, if any?
- Is the cover common to several frame sizes?
