Motor end shield and end housing

An end shield locates the bearing, closes the motor frame and often carries cooling fins. The bearing seat, the spigot that centres it in the frame and the fixing holes decide whether the motor runs true, so these are the features we plan the casting and machining around.

We make finned end housings and end shields for electric motor builders by high pressure die casting, then machine the bearing seat, spigot and fixing holes on our own CNC and VMC machines. Larger or thicker shields for heavier frames can be gravity cast.

Machining and finishing options

  • Bearing seat and spigot machined in one set up where the design allows
  • Drilling and tapping on multi head machines
  • Shot blasting; powder coating or painting through a partner

Questions that sharpen your quote

  1. Which bearing and fit class does the seat carry, for example a K6 or M6 housing bore?
  2. Is the end shield pressed or bolted into the frame?
  3. Are the fins cosmetic, or rated for a cooling requirement?
  4. Annual volume for each frame size, and how many sizes share one design?
