Battery enclosure halves
A battery enclosure protects the cells, carries heat away and keeps water and dust out. The two halves must close evenly along the full sealing face, and internal bosses must take fasteners without cracking.
Our gallery shows the exterior and interior of a pair of enclosure halves we cast by high pressure die casting. Battery housings are one of the areas we are actively developing, so we welcome early conversations on new designs.
Process, alloys and indicative ranges
| Process | HPDC |
|---|---|
| Typical wall | 2 to 4 mm, indicative |
| Alloys | ADC12, LM24, LM6 |
| Supplied | As cast, machined at faces and holes, or sub assembled |
Ranges are indicative for this kind of part. We confirm process, machine, alloy and tolerances for your design at drawing review.
Critical features and how we check them
| Sealing face flatness and width | Surface plate check in house; CMM through a partner when specified |
|---|---|
| Boss and hole positions | Functional gauges in house; first article inspection on every new tool |
| Ingress tightness of the closed pair | Leak test arranged through a specialist partner |
| Soundness at bosses | X ray in house during new component development |
Machining and finishing options
- Facing and drilling
- Thread inserts fitted as part of sub assembly, when specified
- Coating through a partner
Questions that sharpen your quote
- Ingress rating and test method?
- Thermal interface needs, for example a flat floor for cells?
- Annual volume and expected programme life?
